Collective Thinking

For Leaders, Owners & Boards

Facilitation, Mentoring & Consulting

Getting the right group of people around the table is the most important task of a leader. Get it right, and the team moves effortlessly. Get it wrong and well, we all know what happens then. Dysfunctional behaviors, lack of communication, rogue strategies, and basically, chaos. Nobody wins. After researching and working with teams in non-profits, small businesses, restaurants, and hi-tech start-ups, I designed a process to help groups first learn about each other, and then apply that knowledge to the mission of the organization.

Here are a few services I can provide for you and your team:

Aligning the Team

The first step is to develop a map of how everyone interacts with each other. I use the enneagram assessment for this, and people love it! They use the information they receive for all aspects of their lives, not just professionally. It develops EQ, provides a baseline for communicating, and identifies blind spots that often contribute to conflict and poor performance. Depending on the culture and specific goals, this work can be done virtually one-on-one and then a team session scheduled to pull it all together.

Get started: individual enneagram review with each team member

Putting them in action

Once the team map is created, an interesting by-product of this process is role clarification. A lot of conflict resides in the unspoken assumptions of how we all work, both individually and collectively. Misunderstandings about who is doing what tasks, how responsibility is assigned, and who has the authority to make decisions, not to mention the exact process for making a decision, are often at the source of team dysfunction. Hey, people are messy and brilliant. Gives ‘em some tools to be less messy and more brilliant!

Schedule Half day or Whole day Session

keeping them going

This is my role. I'm hired by my clients to be an on-call, off-site resource for the whole team. As in the above picture, my job is to see the organizational map of people, place, and roles, and to support the on-going alignment of each.  Outcome: strong collaborative and resilient cultures and optimal performance. My background combines psychology, business, applied sciences, and human dimensions training. It means that I function as a sounding board, a skill builder, and an influencer, as well as a provider of business and human insights. I can work with one individual on the team, several, or all of the team.

Retain & Sustain: 10 session virtual on-call package.

We engaged Kelleen to facilitate a full day retreat for our Board of Directors as part of our strategic planning process. Kelleen was extremely well prepared and grounded in the specifics of our organization, and also demonstrated outstanding perception in reading the dynamics of the Board and crystallizing our challenges. The retreat was a great success thanks to Kelleen’s masterful facilitation, helping us move seamlessly into the next phase of our strategic planning. She was without a doubt one of the best facilitators I’ve worked with; I highly recommend her!

Kelleen has worked with us since the beginning of our transformation from a closely held group of professionals with a strong set of shared values to a much larger organization with dynamic new members sharing different experiences and expectations. Kelleen has led three high impact workshops that have been instrumental in determining who we are going to be as a leadership team. The upfront work and time that Kelleen invested made all the difference in each case – she spent the time to understand each of us individually. This insight allowed her to design productive workshops that all yielded positive results. Here is what I wrote Kelleen after the conclusion of our third workshop:

"...may be naive, but I thought it could not have gone better. Our team’s style is to seek resolution rather than to elevate conflict. What we do with what we learned today is critically important.  [I] had very positive conversations with two critical participants.  I’m realistic, certainly many challenges ahead for the team.  The good news: today’s session provides a positive platform for us to deal with any challenges ahead.  Kudos- you did a great job leading the day - and the evolution of our collaborative thinking from kickoff months ago to today was near perfection. Great Job!"

I began working with Kelleen at a time when I was completely overwhelmed with my business, sick family members, and natural disasters. Literally exhausted and needing a change, I felt like I was drowning in an ocean of chaos when a friend referred me to Kelleen. I thought he was crazy, “a business coach?” …. until my first session. I felt like I actually had a reliable ally and someone who knew exactly what I was going through. She asked the right questions so that I could find my own answers. She helped me to find the courage to put myself first, and gave me the tools to make some educated changes that I needed to move forward with the choices that would benefit me. I look forward to continuing my journey with Kelleen as a business advisor and valued friend.

Kelleen has helped me to understand and focus on what is important to me so that I can be happy and fulfilled. She has coached me through my exploration and helped me to structure my life and work so that I am much happier. She has known when to challenge me and has given me guidance when I entered areas that were completely new to me. I really appreciate all that she has done for me and would recommend her to anyone that needs a change in their life to be happier.

I first met with Kelleen for assistance in guiding me through a difficult time at work. After a few sessions, I was so impressed with her work, that I asked her to coach my entire leadership team. Her coaching helped us to better understand each other's strengths, weaknesses and communication styles. A year later, I am still sending members of my leadership team to her. Her coaching sessions have contributed to the success of our team individually, and to our organization as a whole."

As a mentor, facilitator, leader, and speaker Kelleen is truly gifted in her calling to help others aspire to their greatest potential. I'm a new mom, balancing work and life, Kelleen was an absolutely essential lifeline for my career. Working with Kelleen helped me tap into my own authentic leadership style and find/refine my truest voice. In facilitating our team's group session Kelleen was a catalyst for a remarkable shift that helped unify and propel my entire team forward during a period of transition. I feel so fortunate to have had the opportunity to work with Kelleen - allowing her to speak into your life with her natural wisdom and courage could be one of the best decisions you make not only for your career but for all areas of your life.

Her work is really unique. What she brought ..was both sides of the brain at a very deep level. We were going through a big transition. Kelleen really had the skill set to manage it. It’s one thing to talk about it and another to be able to do it..... She was indispensable!”

Kelleen brings with her not only her many years of experience, but also keen intuition and experience in dealing with people and organizations. She has a gift for making the complex understandable.....and her humor, energy, and warmth make her an engaging and dynamic speaker and facilitator.
